ACTIVATE ▶️ // Taking steps to reach your wants and dreams


Hello my InspoPeeps! How’s your August going? I know ours is moving WAY too fast and while I feel like summer has just started, I’m getting ready to watch my youngest walk into her freshman year of high school next week! 😲 A week after that my oldest heads into her sophomore year of college! I don’t know about you, but time needs to S L O W the eff down! 🤪 I keep thinking we have time to do this or that, but then schedules conflict, life happens, and I find myself wondering where the time has gone and what I’ve actually done, enjoyed, or experienced.

So, instead of fighting this “not enough time” idea, I decided to journal about it and see where it took me. Turns out I’ve been able to experience some pretty cool stuff these last couple of months even though it may not have been part of the dreams, wants and desires I had. Let me show you a few moments from this summer of what I wanted to do but ended up doing instead.

🙏 WHAT I WANTED

  • A new marketing consulting project in July.
  • Spend more time in the water with the family.
  • Travel somewhere with the family for a week.
  • Keep moving fast and create new products, offerings and get into new locations with CheekyBoom.

WHAT I DID / AM DOING

  • Enjoying summer without the pressure of work, deadlines, emails, chats, and calls. #blessing
  • Worked on our backyard almost every weekend to create a zen oasis for chillaxin’. #blessing
  • Went wine tasting a state over with great friends after dropping my youngest off at a volleyball camp! GO COUGS! #blessing
  • Slowed down. Enjoyed mornings with coffee, walks, worship, writing and peace. This allowed more reflection and better planning for what’s next. #blessing

More often when you take a step back and see what you actually did (or are currently doing) you find that you’re truly right where you’re supposed to be. We can easily get caught up in the idea that we need to be doing so many things all the time. Yet, the blessings happen when you slow down in a world that speeds by faster with each minute.

What I’ve also learned is that your wants must be tied to actions. Simple, right? We all have wants and it’s easy to fixate on those things, experiences, places, etc. When we do, we have two options: 1) Devise a plan to attain the “want” step by step, or 2) Talk about it all the time with no plan which is just a wish with no dream behind it.

Do not confuse dreams with wishes. There is a difference. Dreams are where you visualize yourself being successful at what’s important to you to accomplish. And dreams build convictions. –Dolly Parton

This is why ACTIVATION is so important. To attain or accomplish the things you want, you must first have a dream backed by your convictions. Those convictions are what create the game plan, bring out your discipline, allow you to get into flow, and get you to work strategically to make things happen! You’re activating the cycle to fulfill the wants. When I look at the list above, I can easily say that I did not back those wants with conviction. They were just wishes. In the future, I know exactly what I need to do if I really want something (which I don’t think surprises any of us, right? 😉).

So, get out there and ACTIVATE yourself into doing the things you want. Make a game plan and do one thing each day that will get you closer to those dreams. That’s all it takes…small, consistent steps which keep you activated and moving towards those dreams. And remember: Even when things don't go your way, you can always find the #blessing in all of it! You got this! 💪
